Free Testosterone

PRODUCT NAME: AccuBind Free Testosterone
INTENDED USE: The quantitative determination of free Testosterone concentration in human serum or plasma by a Microplate Enzyme Immunoassay.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW: Testosterone is a steroid hormone synthesized by the testes in males. It is responsible for the development of secondary sex characteristics. Testosterone measurements have been very helpful in evaluating hypogonadal states. It is responsible for the development of secondary sex characteristics. The majority of testosterone is bound to transport proteins; weakly bound to albumin and cortisol binding protein (25-65% females and 45-85% males) and tightly bound to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) (females 35-75% and males 14-50%). A small fraction exist as unbound or free testosterone, however this form is biologically active. Therefore, the free hormone concentration is a better indicator of biological activity than total testosterone.
